In the words of Jennifer Hudson’s 2008 hit, “Spotlight,” she’s in the center of attention. As of Sunday’s 2022 Tony Awards (Sunday, June 12), Hudson was the 17th person to win an EGOT award. As one of the producers of A Strange Loop, which won the award for best musical, she was honored.

Hudson is the third-youngest EGOT holder at the age of 40 and nine months. Among the other winners, only Robert Lopez (39 years old at the time) and John Legend (39 years and eight months old at the time) were younger. Hudson is only the third black EGOT after Whoopi Goldberg and John Legend.

Dreamgirls, Hudson’s debut feature-length film, won her an Oscar for best supporting actress in 2007. In 2009, she won a Grammy for best R&B album for her self-titled first album, making it two Grammys in two years. As a performer in a revival of The Color Purple, she received a second Grammy eight years later for best musical theater CD.

As an executive producer of Baba Yaga, Hudson won a Daytime Emmy in 2021, her first nomination for a Primetime Emmy. One of the best interactive media for daytime programming was awarded to the virtual-reality animated picture.

On the other hand, as a performer, Hudson has yet to be nominated for a Tony Award. In 2016, her performance in The Color Purple was overlooked for an award nomination. Nonetheless, as one of 44 producers on A Strange Loop, she was awarded this year’s Producer of the Year Award.

Those aren’t any typos. Inconsistent criteria have evolved as a result of the EGOT phenomena, and in certain circumstances, they are too lenient. An EGOT award should be given to anyone who produces or co-produces a musical that wins the Tony Award for best musical. Nonetheless, when 44 people or organizations are named producers, it raises the question of how much creative input each had.

Third performer to win an EGOT with a group of producers, however the prior groups were far smaller than A Strange Loop’s producers. Thoroughly Modern Millie, the best musical winner of 2002, was produced by 11 people, including Goldberg. Jitney, a revival of August Wilson’s play in which Legend was one of eight producers, was named best revival of a play in 2017.

The number of producers who can win prizes on a single project may need to be limited. There are so many possibilities that it’s difficult to decide on just one. We can all agree that 44 is an excessive number.

To put it simply, there’s a 25-person waiting list for a Tony Award to become an EGOT winner. Burt Bacharach, Cher, Common, Brian Grazer; Ron Howard; Randy Newman; Trent Reznor; Atticus Ross; Martin Scorsese; Barbra Streisand; John Williams; and Kate Winslet are all included in the list of top-notch performers. A simple phone call to their representatives is all they need to do to begin investing in projects with the potential to win awards. One of those initiatives will be the winner if they have sound judgment and connections in the field of technology development.

This does not diminish Hudson’s accomplishment. When a show or album wins an Emmy, Tony, or Grammy, the present rules for who wins are too lax, but she didn’t come up with them. She has the ability to become an EGOT performer at some point in the future. It would be nice if she did.

Is there a certain number you’d want to know? Only four actors – Helen Hayes, Rita Moreno, John Gielgud, and Audrey Hepburn – were involved.

On a side note, Hudson is the first American Idol star to win an EGOT. That long-running show included her as a contestant back in season 3. That’s one contest she lost. Sixth place went to her. Disappointment didn’t stop her from moving forward.

Only two awards were given to A Strange Loop, which was less than expected. In 2020, Michael R. Jackson’s musical “Thriller” received the Pulitzer Prize for best drama.

The Tony Awards were hosted by Ariana DeBose at Radio City Music Hall in New York City for the 75th year in a row.

Here they are, the Tony Award-winning A Strange Loop creators: Don Cheadle and Bridgid Coulter Cheadle are in A Choir Full Productions, as are Paul Oakley Stovall and Jimmy Wilson; Robyn Coles is in Annapurna Theatre; Robyn Gottesdiener is in Creative Partners Productions; Kayla Greenspan is in Phenomenal Media & Entertainment; and Richard Mumby is in Maximum Effort Productions Inc.

The rapper has made no secret throughout the course of the recent years of the fact that his mother has not been a part of his life and has not been since he was just nine years old when they severed all ties. However, it appears that this is no longer the case because on Thursday he posted a very significant update on Instagram. The announcement was made by the musician by uploading a picture of him and his mother sitting side by side.

No Pork In That!

MGK, whose real name is Colson Baker, was born and initially raised in Houston, Texas. He previously opened up about his mother’s absence during his childhood in a collaboration with Lil Skies titled “Burning Memories” from his Hotel Diablo album. He stated that she deserted their family when he was 9 years old.

According to The New York Times, the musician later moved to Denver, Colorado with his father, who passed away in July 2020 of an unidentified ailment unrelated to COVID-19. The musician’s father died in July 2020.

MGK says “Yeah, this one’s for the mama that I never knew / I took acid just to burn all of my memories of you,” sings MGK on the 2016 track. “I guess now I really wanna know the truth / How’d you leave your only child at 9 for another dude?”

Then in MGK fashion, he salutes the fans;

ISTHATPORKS TAKE:

Who says there’s a time limit for the high road? after years of pain, anguish, drugs, and basically living like half of an orphan, MGK is obviously a better man. Narrowing the gap and filling the void is always the thing that better people attempt to do. Most people would probably never forgive a parent for doing such a thing as abandoning a child, but we suspect MGK has deeper life experiences and meanings that he paid attention to. That he overcame, understood his worth, and caught up to the reason why he’s here on earth. Seems like he has to share those blessings with the person who brought him into the World because, without her, there’s no him. But don’t quote us on that. It’s just a no pork observation. Simple enough huh!? FOOD YEARS UP MGK!
