A mother in Harris County, Texas killed her 5-year-old kid on Monday after leaving him in a hot car for “many hours” while she got ready for her older daughter’s birthday party.

According to Thomas M. Gilliland, senior deputy of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the youngster was pronounced dead in the driveway of the family’s home.

Both the mother and the child’s names have been withheld at this time. When asked if the mother might be charged, Gilliland likewise did not provide an answer.

Investigators from the Homicide and Child Crimes Units were called to the location, as stated by Gilliland. Investigators will be presenting their findings to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, thus the case is not closed. Before his tragic death, the 5-year-old boy had gone shopping with his mother to get supplies for his sister’s upcoming 8th birthday party, County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez told ABC13 KTRK. They arrived back at their house, and the mother and daughter got out, but the child stayed in the car, still belted into his seat, for several hours before anybody noticed he wasn’t there.

“[The mother] was eager, trying to get things together, and sadly this time the child did not make it out,” Gonzalez told KTRK on Monday. Again, they were so busy getting ready for the events that the child’s absence went unnoticed for quite some time.

In an interview with KTRK, Gonzalez explained that the family had been using a rental automobile while their own vehicle was being repaired, and that the toddler may not have been familiar with the rental’s locking systems. As far as the sheriff could tell, there was no active child safety lock on any of the vehicle’s doors.

Gonzalez informed KTRK that at at 3:19 p.m., police were made aware of the incident.

The Weather Channel reports that the Houston area set a new record high temperature of 102 degrees Fahrenheit on Monday.

According to a fact sheet from the Texas Department of State Health Services, children have a higher chance of dying from heatstroke than adults do in part because their body temperature increases three to five times faster than an adult’s. The government defines 107 degrees as a “lethal core temperature,” however the page warns that heatstroke symptoms can appear at 104 degrees.

According to the National Safety Council, every year, 38 children under the age of 15 die from heatstroke after being left in a hot car. According to the council’s website, 23 youngsters lost their lives in this way in 2021.

Five children in Texas have died this year from heat exposure after being left in cars, according to the Texas Child Protection Services.

This story has pork written all over it. What the hell was she thinking? how the hell can you forget that your 5 yr old child is in the car? and who would understand Sheriff Ed Gonzalez when he said "The mother was excited, trying to get things together, and unfortunately this time the child did not make it out,". I mean, what the hell does that comment mean? it's obvious the child didn't make it out. The child is dead because of her negligent pork actions. No ifs and or butts. THIS IS PORK! On August 30th, a Black man, age 20, was shot and killed by a police officer in Columbus, Ohio, who was attempting to serve a warrant on him. Donovan Lewis has been named as the victim.

Footage from the officer’s body camera revealed that he was disarmed and laying on his bed next to what seemed to be a vape pen. A search of court records revealed that the officers were executing a warrant for unlawful firearm handling, assault, and domestic abuse.

Ten minutes after police arrived at Lewis’ flat, someone answered the door and was taken into jail. When police entered the flat, they located another male hiding inside.

The two males did not respond to police inquiries about whether or not others were present in the residence. They announced to those still inside that a K9 officer was being released. When the dog began barking at the door to a bedroom, Cop Ricky Anderson stepped back to open it, with a fellow officer close behind. Both were ready to fire their weapons.

Lewis sat up in bed when Anderson opened the door and was shot dead. Lewis was taken out of the residence, and handcuffed, after the incident. The medics attempted to treat his gunshot wound before taking him to Grant Medical Center, where he was sadly pronounced dead.

Officer Anderson has been placed on administrative leave as the shooting investigation continues.

The death of a young man, aged 8, is being investigated after he was shot by his younger sibling, aged 5.

A 911 caller reported a “shooting involving a toddler” at a home in the 2700 block of Shannon Valley Road just after 2:00 p.m., according to a press statement from the local police department.

An 8-year-old child was discovered lifeless inside the house when they arrived. The coroner for Jefferson County was called and confirmed the child’s death at the scene, the announcement said.

The incident was likely accidental, according to the investigation.

The situation was terrible and could have been prevented, Sheriff Lafayette Woods, Jr. said. To reiterate, firearms must always be stored safely, out of the reach of minors, and out of the home.

One of these catastrophes may happen in the house of a gun owner who does not properly protect his or her firearms, Woods said.

An Arkansas television station, THV11, reports that the boy’s mother and four other siblings were home at the time of the tragedy. The site further reported that the Department of Human Services was contacted to ensure their well-being.

Sheriff Woods confirmed to THV11 that “at least the mother was actually present” based on the time of arrival. There were rumors that she was sleeping through the shooting but woke up when she heard the gunfire and discovered the 8-year-old lying on the floor.

“You know, just a loss for words right now. Just because the nature of the incident and the ages of those involved,” the Sheriff continued.

Multiple news outlets have reported that a young boy died after being left in a car by his parents in Florida’s hot weather.

A 3-year-old kid was reportedly discovered unresponsive in a car on Monday afternoon outside the Lubavitch Education Center in Miami Gardens, as reported by the Miami Herald, ABC affiliate WPLG, and NBC Miami.

According to NBC Miami, the Medical Examiner for Miami-Dade County has confirmed the victim’s identity as Sholom Tauber. The site claims that Tauber’s death was an accident caused by heat.

The Herald said that the youngster may have been in the car for up to six hours.

In a statement posted late Monday, Lubavitch Education Center head Rabbi Benzion Korf revealed that the boy’s parents worked there.

A great number of people in our school community have been touched by this terrible event. Korf was quoted as saying, No words can capture the heartbreak and sadness we feel,”

The rabbi also mentioned that on Tuesday, a therapist and bereavement counselor will be made available.

According to the Herald, authorities believe Tauber was one of numerous siblings who attended the same preschool where his parents worked.

On Monday, the media claimed that the temperature in the Miami area was around 93 degrees. There was an estimated heat index of 101 degrees.

WPLG and NBC Miami report that authorities arrived at the site at 3:45 p.m. and transported Tauber to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

According to WPLG, the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner’s Office brought the boy’s body to Jackson North Medical Center on Monday night.

Forensic investigators are looking into the boy’s death, WPLG reports.

The Herald stated that police intend to use a search warrant to gather CCTV footage from the school or any neighboring businesses.

A child under the age of six may not be left “unattended or unsupervised” in a motor vehicle in Florida.

In the event that a kid suffers “severe physical harm, lifelong impairment, or permanent disfigurement” as a result of being left alone in a car, the offender may be charged with a felony of the third degree.

The National Safety Council found that ten children died from being left in hot cars in 2022. Twenty-three children died from being left in hot cars in 2021.

According to research conducted by Kids and Cars, Florida had 107 kid fatalities related to overheated cars between 1990 and 2021, making it the state with the second highest total.

Since 1990, almost a thousand children have perished from exposure to heat in automobiles.
