Amid Oscar SLAP Will Smith wins best actor at 2022 BET Awards; ‘King Richard’ co-stars weigh in on Oscars scandal

Will Smith, whose slap of Chris Rock at the Oscars garnered attention, went on to win big for his part in King Richard at the 2022 BET Awards.

Smith, 53, won best actor for his role in the sports film based on Richard Williams, but he was unable to attend the ceremony on Sunday, June 26. The Pennsylvania native’s costars Mikayla Bartholomew and Saniyya Sidney shared an update on Smith amid the turmoil.

Bartholomew, who played Tunde Price, said on Sunday, “Every time I talk to him, he always says everything is in divine grandeur, ya know, so he’s awesome.” The conversation with him is always enjoyable.

Sidney, for her part, was proud of how much King Richard accomplished since its launch late last year. The actress who played Venus said, “Our film was really significant to us because Venus [Williams] and Serena [Williams] altered so many women’s lives, our lives.”

Smith made news earlier this year when he got into a fight at the 94th Academy Awards.Chris  Rock, 57, made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s buzz cut while presenting an award. The 50-year-old star of “Girls Trip,” who has spoken openly about her alopecia, rolled her eyes at the remark. Her husband then walked out onto the stage and whacked the comic.

Clips of the South Carolina native saying, “Will Smith just smacked the s—t out of me,” were edited out and posted online. The former Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star was heard telling Rock to “keep my wife’s name out your f—king mouth” as he sat back down to his seat.

Smith went on to utilize his acceptance speech for the best actor award at the Oscars as a platform to apologize. “Oh, man. During his passionate acceptance speech for his portrayal in King Richard, he noted, “Richard Williams was a staunch defender of his family.” Love people, guard people, be a river to my people; these are the tasks I am being asked to undertake. Taking criticism is just part of the job, and I’m aware of that. You must have a magnetic personality to make people go crazy for you. To succeed in this field, you must be able to take criticism and disrespect from others. And you have to act as if it’s fine; grin and act casual.

He concluded: “I want to apologize to the academy. I want to apologize to all my fellow nominees. … Art imitates life: I look like the crazy father. Just like they said about Richard Williams. But love will make you do crazy things. … Thank you for this moment. And thank you on behalf of Richard and the entire Williams family. Thank you. I hope the academy invites me back.”

The star of “I Am Legend” took to social media a day after the event to apologize again. I want to say I’m sorry to you in front of everyone, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am mortified and my behaviors were not typical of the guy I aspire to be. Violence has no place in a world full of love and generosity, he remarked on Instagram.

In the lengthy speech, Smith addressed his “unacceptable and inexcusable” acts toward Rock. Continuing, he said, “I would also like to apologize to The Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees, and everyone watching across the world.” To the Williams family and my own King Richard family, I sincerely apologize. All of us have been on a beautiful adventure, but I am sorry that my actions have tarnished it.

Every Time a Celebrity Said Something About Jada and Will’s Hot Topics
In less than a month, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that Smith would be barred from attending any Oscars ceremonies for a decade. The star of Suicide Squad issued a statement in April in response to his punishment, saying, “I accept and respect the Academy’s decision.”

An exclusive source at the time said that Smith and Pinkett Smith were working to get past the issue. An insider shared, “Right now they’re attempting to salvage the best of a fairly awful situation by sorting things out, committing to therapy together.”

ISTHATPORKS TAKE:

Good to see Will Smith gaining his bearings back. Little by little, day by day, situation after situation. It all adds up. This is what begins to happen when a person takes responsibility for one's actions as he did. People will stop attacking you. They will stop hounding you. They will stop coming after you. Trump and many other public figures in our orbit need a course on ethics and accountability. They need a course on filling their own voids. They should start with Will Smith's example. Hey Will, You saved many people from falling into the void you co-starred by filling it. FOOD YEARS UP WILL!

Kanye West apologizes for George Floyd comments, saying Adidas’s ordeal humbled him.

After claiming that George Floyd’s death was the result of fentanyl rather than police brutality in Minneapolis, Kanye West has apologized to Floyd’s family.

As reported by Consequence, West apologized for the remarks while mobbed by paparazzi on Friday (October 28).

West expressed his discomfort, saying, ““When I see that video as a Black person, it hurts my feelings, and I know that police do attack [sic] and that America is generally racist. And I understand that when we got to say Black Lives Matter, the idea of it made us feel good together as a people. Now, afterwards there was some things where the money went in order to push us to the Democratic vote.”

Finally, West admitted that he feels bad about creating conspiracy theories surrounding Floyd’s murder because adidas severed their commercial ties with him.

Accordingly, “So when I questioned the death of George Floyd, it hurt my people,” he continued. “I want to apologize. Because God has showed me by what adidas is doing, by what the media is doing, I know what it feels to have a knee on my neck right now.

“So thank you God for humbling me and letting me know how it really felt. Because how could the richest Black men ever be humbled other than to be made to not be a billionaire in front of everyone off a comment.”

They sued him for $250 million on behalf of his daughter, who is the sole heir to Floyd’s fortune, after he made some contentious comments.

The rapper also doubled down on his anti-Semitic language during Friday’s impromptu news conference, adding, “the amount of Jews killed in Nazi Germany paled in compared to the number of Black people killed by abortion.”

His recent anti-Semitic comments have apparently cost him his coveted billionaire status, and as a result, several companies have severed connections with West. Among them is Adidas.

After a week of criticism, West returned to social media and released a text message from his lawyer, Quinn Emanuel, in which he was informed of his legal options with respect to adidas and Gap, from whom he had parted ways in September.

As for Adidas, the message said, “You may now begin creating new designs for footwear, clothes, and accessories.” The end date of your non-compete with Gap is December15, 2022. The Yeezy brand and its associated trademarks are your own.

Forbes estimates that his fortune has dropped from $1.9 billion to $400 million.

Will Smith claims that Floyd Mayweather checked in with him daily for ten days after he smacked Chris Rock at the Oscars to see how he was doing.

During a private showing of his new film “Emancipation” at The London hotel, Smith revealed… , and he seized the opportunity to thank TBE for being there for him in the presence of Floyd, even if at the time they weren’t exactly great friends.

On camera, Smith remarked, “I want to say something also about Floyd.” The footage was later shared on TMZ Sports. “So, we’ve met each other, we’ve seen each other around, but we weren’t like, friends.”

“And, the day after the Oscars, for 10 days he called me every day, And, he was like, ‘Ay, you know you the champ, right? You good? You know you the champ, right? I want you to hear my voice say it,'”

“That was every day he called me … and it’s like, that’s my dude forever right there.”

In light of Smith’s reluctance to discuss the slapping event since his only public statement on the matter came in the form of an apologetic video in July, hearing him describe the days immediately following the incident is very rare.

Mayweather, for his part, thought the movie was great.

A pivotal moment in history is beautifully depicted in “Emancipation. Floyd says, “I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.”

“Watching Emancipation film last night — the picture was nothing short of wonderful! The film hit so many elements of me as a black guy in America… Will Smith is outstanding!! Every frame was Art!!!!!,” Deon exclaims.
