Jon Stewart rallies with veterans for Rubublican Stall legislation: “lowest hanging fruit”

Washington— Jon Stewart came to Washington on Monday to urge Senate Republicans to adopt a plan to heal soldiers exposed to harmful chemicals.
Jon Stewart came to Washington on Monday to urge Senate Republicans to adopt a plan to heal soldiers exposed to harmful chemicals.

“This is the lowest hanging fruit of a functioning society. Like, if we can’t do this, the rest of us have no shot,” Stewart said, depicting the stalled bill as a symptom of deepening political dysfunction. “This is the canary in the coal mine.”

Behind him stood soldiers and their families, including the mother-in-law of Sgt. 1st Class Heath Robinson, who died of lung cancer at 39. The VA denied him benefits it gives injured soldiers and their families. Robinson left a 9-year-old daughter.

A placard behind Stewart read, “Senators lie, veterans die.” Another poster named the 25 Republican senators who blocked passage last week.

Stewart intended to break the standoff before lawmakers’ August vacation. He was outraged and annoyed about the legislation’s lack of controversy. After the gathering, the former “Daily Show” host remarked, “This isn’t like the Democrats snuck in ‘abortion for all’ into a gay pride bill,”

The PACT Act would empower the Department of Veterans Affairs to increase health care services for service members exposed to harmful chemicals from so-called burn pits during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. At least nine respiratory cancers may be triggered by burn pit particle matter.

The Senate passed the law in June with bipartisan backing, but removing a single taxation language necessitated a second vote, setting up last week’s defeat. 25 Republicans who had previously supported the bill reversed course, shocking veterans and their allies.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., stated at a rally last Thursday, “This is bullshit,” Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., a supporter of the act, said at a rally last Thursday, following the development. He has consistently supported veterans’ causes and advocated for the Zadroga Act (also sponsored by Gillibrand), which created a compensation fund for first responders sickened at Ground Zero following 9/11.

Stewart called the World Trade Center, whose collapse discharged deadly chemicals, the “original burn pit.” Ground Zero was a terrorist attack, whereas the burn pits were irresponsible.

“It was the original burn pit,” Stewart said of the ruined World Trade Center, whose collapse released a similar multitude of toxic chemicals. The difference, he said, was that Ground Zero was the product of a terrorist attack, while the burn pits were the result of careless practice.

Republicans say the package is too costly. Some believe last week’s move was a display of frustration over a $700 billion reconciliation plan that would fulfill President Biden’s climate change and health care concerns.

Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., a leader of recent Republican opposition to the PACT Act, said he would vote for it if the Senate also accepted an amendment he presented to remedy a “budget gimmick” that would allow Democrats to spend billions on topics unrelated to veterans’ care.

Veterans Affairs Secretary Denis McDonough disputes Toomey’s depiction, pointing out that his proposed modifications would cap how much may be spent on care per year and halt burn pit care expenditures after 10 years, forcing Congress to either discontinue the program or extend it.

This week, we’ll vote on Toomey’s amendment. Veterans on Capitol Hill swore to rally until the PACT Act passes. One of Stewart’s followers commented, “Congress shouldn’t go for August recess until this law passes.” Staying. Stay!”

ISTHATPORKS TAKE:

Here in 2022 since the beginning of time Republicans are part of the problems they say they're against. You can also add democracy to that picture. Time and time again they say "they're for the military", "they're for the country" and "they're for people's rights in the constitution" but yet, their actions don't match up with what they want everyone to believe they're for. Now they have a problem passing a bill that should be so easy to pass. Where talking veterans. This is not rocket science. Veterans. But, because they didn't get what they wanted in another bill they think holding this bill hostage is payback. Meanwhile, every day that goes by it's affecting a veteran somewhere in this country in not a good way. We'll tell them this- "If their def ears don't hear because they are focused on political points and games, the common sense of future generations will be sure to tell republicans in this day what assholes they really were". That's sure to happen! "FOOD YEARS UP!" to Jon Stewart in this moment for doing the right thing where necessary. His input is not only a comforter to some who this is affecting directly but angelic to most.

Kanye West apologizes for George Floyd comments, saying Adidas’s ordeal humbled him.

After claiming that George Floyd’s death was the result of fentanyl rather than police brutality in Minneapolis, Kanye West has apologized to Floyd’s family.

As reported by Consequence, West apologized for the remarks while mobbed by paparazzi on Friday (October 28).

West expressed his discomfort, saying, ““When I see that video as a Black person, it hurts my feelings, and I know that police do attack [sic] and that America is generally racist. And I understand that when we got to say Black Lives Matter, the idea of it made us feel good together as a people. Now, afterwards there was some things where the money went in order to push us to the Democratic vote.”

Finally, West admitted that he feels bad about creating conspiracy theories surrounding Floyd’s murder because adidas severed their commercial ties with him.

Accordingly, “So when I questioned the death of George Floyd, it hurt my people,” he continued. “I want to apologize. Because God has showed me by what adidas is doing, by what the media is doing, I know what it feels to have a knee on my neck right now.

“So thank you God for humbling me and letting me know how it really felt. Because how could the richest Black men ever be humbled other than to be made to not be a billionaire in front of everyone off a comment.”

They sued him for $250 million on behalf of his daughter, who is the sole heir to Floyd’s fortune, after he made some contentious comments.

The rapper also doubled down on his anti-Semitic language during Friday’s impromptu news conference, adding, “the amount of Jews killed in Nazi Germany paled in compared to the number of Black people killed by abortion.”

His recent anti-Semitic comments have apparently cost him his coveted billionaire status, and as a result, several companies have severed connections with West. Among them is Adidas.

After a week of criticism, West returned to social media and released a text message from his lawyer, Quinn Emanuel, in which he was informed of his legal options with respect to adidas and Gap, from whom he had parted ways in September.

As for Adidas, the message said, “You may now begin creating new designs for footwear, clothes, and accessories.” The end date of your non-compete with Gap is December15, 2022. The Yeezy brand and its associated trademarks are your own.

Forbes estimates that his fortune has dropped from $1.9 billion to $400 million.

Will Smith claims that Floyd Mayweather checked in with him daily for ten days after he smacked Chris Rock at the Oscars to see how he was doing.

During a private showing of his new film “Emancipation” at The London hotel, Smith revealed… , and he seized the opportunity to thank TBE for being there for him in the presence of Floyd, even if at the time they weren’t exactly great friends.

On camera, Smith remarked, “I want to say something also about Floyd.” The footage was later shared on TMZ Sports. “So, we’ve met each other, we’ve seen each other around, but we weren’t like, friends.”

“And, the day after the Oscars, for 10 days he called me every day, And, he was like, ‘Ay, you know you the champ, right? You good? You know you the champ, right? I want you to hear my voice say it,'”

“That was every day he called me … and it’s like, that’s my dude forever right there.”

In light of Smith’s reluctance to discuss the slapping event since his only public statement on the matter came in the form of an apologetic video in July, hearing him describe the days immediately following the incident is very rare.

Mayweather, for his part, thought the movie was great.

A pivotal moment in history is beautifully depicted in “Emancipation. Floyd says, “I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.”

“Watching Emancipation film last night — the picture was nothing short of wonderful! The film hit so many elements of me as a black guy in America… Will Smith is outstanding!! Every frame was Art!!!!!,” Deon exclaims.
