Police in Ohio say they pursued and killed a man they believed was trying to break into the FBI’s Cincinnati field office on ThursdaCounty officials in Ohio said the guy was wearing body armor and had what appeared to be an AR-15 rifle and a nail gun.
County officials in Ohio said the guy was wearing body armor and had what appeared to be an AR-15 rifle and a nail gun.
The state highway patrol identified him as 42-year-old Ricky W. Shiffer of Columbus on Friday.
Two law enforcement sources staed that Shiffer was already known to the FBI due to his ties to a far-right extremist group and his involvement in an undisclosed riot at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.
An online profile associated with Shiffer appears to have made reference to an effort to storm an FBI office on that day. After the FBI executed a search warrant at the Florida residence of former President Donald Trump on Monday, his campaign also issued a “call to arms” and urged for violence against the agency. The suspect’s ownership of the account has not been verified by the authorities.
Our current knowledge of the attempted break-in and the perpetrator is as follows:
According to the FBI, at around 9:15 a.m. ET on Thursday, an armed man attempted to break into the FBI field office through the visitor screening facility.
Following the triggering of an alert and the arrival of armed FBI special agents, the suspect ran northbound on Interstate 71, according to a statement released by FBI Cincinnati.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, at 9:37 a.m., officers responded to a call about a suspicious Ford Crown Victoria at an interstate rest area.
Highway patrol spokesman Lt. Nathan Dennis said the pursuit began after troopers attempted to conduct a traffic check but the subject evaded capture. During the pursuit, shots were fired from the suspect’s vehicle, he claimed.
At around 9:53 a.m., the suspect got off the interstate at state Route 73 in Clinton County, Ohio, the highway patrol said. This is about 45 miles northeast of downtown Cincinnati.
The highway patrol stated the man “engaged officers” after he got out of his car. They said law police opened fire and the suspect returned fire while taking cover in his vehicle.
It was reported by the Clinton County Emergency Management Agency that the suspect was outfitted with body armor. The government announced a lockdown in force within a mile of the vicinity of the standoff.
The highway patrol reported that the standoff lasted for a number of hours as officers attempted to talk with the culprit.
Once authorities saw that conversations weren’t going anywhere, they tried to take the man into custody using less lethal tactics, the agency claimed. In the words of the authorities: “At about 3:42 p.m., the suspect raised a pistol and shots were fired.”
According to the agency, the suspect was shot and later died from his wounds at the site.
The FBI has stated that it is looking into what led up to the shooting of the suspect. It’s not apparent what, if any, nonlethal measures were used by officials to try to apprehend him.
A federal law enforcement source also stated that the FBI was looking into Shiffer’s online activity to determine if he was connected to right-wing extremism.
Shiffer’s name was attached to a tweet on Trump’s social media platform, Truth Social, on Thursday morning, which seemed to allude to an attempted raid on an FBI building.
Minutes after 9:15 a.m., when the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported the incident at the Cincinnati office had begun, the message was published.
“Well, I thought I had a way through bullet proof glass, and I didn’t,” the user posted at 9:29 a.m. Thursday. “If you don’t hear from me, it is true I tried attacking the F.B.I., and it’ll mean either I was taken off the internet, the F.B.I. got me, or they sent the regular cops while.”
While it’s possible the user had more to say, their post abruptly ends after the word “while.”
Due to an ongoing investigation, the FBI has chosen not to comment on the account or its contents. According to a law enforcement official quoted by CNN, a photograph on the account matched a government ID photo of Shiffer.
This account has been online for a matter of weeks, and in that time the user has been communicating with others while expressing growing political violence and revolutionary ideas.
The user became obsessed with the idea of retaliating violently against the FBI after they carried out a search warrant at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate on Monday.
“People, this is it,” “I hope a call to arms comes from someone better qualified, but if not, this is your call to arms from me.”
The poster urged readers to “grab whatever you need to be ready for war” from local pawn shops and gun shops.
The Shiffer user said, “Bring them on” after another member said they were going to report him to the FBI.
The information may or may not have been given to the FBI.
The user said on Tuesday that a number of people were planning to meet up in Palm Beach, Florida, near Mar-a-Lago, and threatened to “murder them” if the FBI intervened to disperse the gathering.
The account holder also said he was in the nation’s capital on January 6, 2021, however he did not specify whether or not he visited the Capitol building. The ad repeatedly referred to the conspiracy theory that Trump will be elected in 2020 despite having no legitimate chance of winning.
According to two law enforcement sources on Friday, Shiffer was already on the FBI’s radar owing to his ties to the violence in January 2021 and his friends within the Proud Boys. The leader of the far-right extremist group known as the Proud Boys, as well as several other top members of the group, were charged with seditious conspiracy in connection with the assault in 2021.
According to the two sources, the inquiry into Shiffer’s possible involvement in the disturbance in January of 2021 is ongoing. At the time of the fatal shooting, lawmakers were gathered to officially declare Joe Biden the winner of the 2020 presidential election.
His declassified military papers show that Shiffer served in the US Navy from 1998 until June of 2003. He was in charge of the weapons systems on board a US Navy submarine and worked as a fire control technician.
According to the FBI, the “agent-involved shooting” is being looked into at the agency’s headquarters. According to a law enforcement source, the FBI has sent a Shooting Incident Review Team to the site after an FBI special agent or task force officer fired a firearm.
According to the source, the review team will collect evidence and interview witnesses to evaluate if the use of fatal force was appropriate.
All gunshot events involving FBI agents or task force members are taken very seriously, according to an FBI statement. The evaluation is comprehensive, impartial, and completed as quickly as possible given the circumstances.
On Thursday night, FBI Director Christopher Wray issued a statement denouncing recent attacks on law enforcement and the agency.
“Unfounded attacks on the integrity of the FBI erode respect for the rule of law and are a grave disservice to the men and women who sacrifice so much to protect others. Violence and threats against law enforcement, including the FBI, are dangerous and should be deeply concerning to all Americans,” Wray said.
A law enforcement official reported on Friday that since the search of Mar-a-Lago, the FBI has received an unusual number of threats against its people and property.
The identities of the agents were blacked out in the unsealed court documents, but they were not in the version of the search warrant that made its way into the public domain. Information about the two agents who attested to the warrant filing has gone viral.

Dozens of unresponsive victims requiring CPR at what appeared to have been a large gathering in South Korea on Saturday have raised death toll estimates to several.
Pictures and videos of dozens of people lying on the streets of the trendy Seoul area of Itaewon are currently making the rounds online, with many of them receiving chest compressions from passersby and emergency personnel.
It's clear from the reaction that the scenario is extremely chaotic, and the visuals are unsettling because many of the people in them don't appear to be conscious.
Ground reports indicate that over a hundred people were hurt, with many reportedly suffering cardiac arrest. Photos show police placing tarps over what appear to be dead bodies, suggesting a high death toll, although the New York Times reports only 2 confirmed deaths.

There are so many people here because this is one of the largest Halloween parties in Seoul; word is that tens of thousands of people have crammed into the narrow alleys, which may have caused the stampede.
It has been speculated, but not proven, that the crush occurred when a celebrity was spotted in Itaewon and everyone rushed to the scene's only bar to catch a glimpse of them.
Yoon Suk Yeol, president of South Korea, has already sent emergency services to the city of Seoul, and the mayor is returning from an overseas trip to assess the damage and receive a briefing.
In Buffalo, New York, four adolescents were killed in a car incident early Monday.
Marcus Webster (19), Swazine Swindle (17), Kevin Payne (16), and Ahjanae Harper (14), according to the New York Post.
Kia, the destroyed vehicle, was reported stolen on Sunday night, according to Buffalo police. Police think the youngsters took the vehicle to take part in “The Kia Challenge,” a viral challenge on the video-sharing platform TikTok in which users are shown how to hot-wire a Kia, a South Korean automobile, using only a screwdriver and a USB connection.
According to WIVB, “five of the six occupants, were ejected.”
The unidentified 16-year-old driver of the stolen vehicle was reportedly one of two people who survived the crash and received treatment at Erie County Medical Center. According to the source, the driver has been arrested and charged with criminal possession of stolen property and illegal use of a vehicle.
While he awaits his court date today (Friday, October 28), police have freed him on bond.
A 14-year-old girl was the other lucky survivor; she was taken to the hospital and treated in intensive care before being released.
Having recently received a newborn girl on what would have been Harper’s 15th birthday, her family has started a GoFundMe to raise $15,000.
A resident of the area said of her in a TIKTOK video, “SHE WAS A YOUNG MOTHER,
Nashira Anderson, Swindle’s sister, said her sibling’s favorite activities included basketball and jokes.
Webster will be remembered by his family and friends as a dedicated worker who struggled to keep up with both employment and school.
The Buffalo Public School District said, “We certainly send our deepest condolences and sympathies to all the families and everyone impacted by this unfortunate and horrific tragedy,”
WGRZ reports that Kia issued a statement on the matter on Thursday.
California, STOCKTON — Suspect in the shooting deaths of six men and the injury of a woman in Northern California was apprehended early Saturday morning as he drove around Stockton with a revolver, authorities said.
Five of the shootings took occurred in this city in the Central Valley, and police began following leads on the culprit around 2 a.m., according to Police Chief Stanley McFadden’s press conference.
Stockton resident Wesley Brownlee, 43, “was out hunting,” according to McFadden. Brownlee wore a mask and all black clothing.
He then stated, “We are sure we stopped another killing.”
For some time, it was unclear if Brownlee was represented by counsel. On Tuesday, he is scheduled to be formally charged with murder.
The black and gray weapon the guy was reportedly carrying was seen on police camera. A semiautomatic handgun made of what looked like plastic and rubber.
Between July 8 and September 27, five men were ambushed and shot dead in Stockton, and police had been seeking for a man in black who had been seen at multiple murder scenes. A car was parked, and four people were walking.
A man was killed in Oakland, 70 miles distant, in April 2021, and a week later, a homeless lady was injured in Stockton; police suspect the same individual was responsible for both attacks.
Ballistics testing and surveillance footage, according to investigators, proved the crimes were related.
A moment of silence was observed at the press conference in honor of the victims.
On April 10, 2021, Juan Vasquez Serrano, 39, was shot and murdered in Oakland; on April 16, 2021, Natasha LaTour, 46, was shot but survived in Stockton. Five men were slain in Stockton this year: 35-year-old Paul Yaw on July 8; 43-year-old Salvador Debudey Jr. on August 11; 21-year-old Jonathan Hernandez Rodriguez on August 30; 52-year-old Juan Cruz on September 21; and 54-year-old Lawrence Lopez Sr. on September 27.
Brownlee has a criminal background, according to the police, and he is thought to have lived in other places in the Stockton area.
Hundreds of leads poured in when authorities announced the manhunt, and investigators were able to track down and keep a close eye on Brownlee’s residence.
With the help of information from the public and Stockton Crime Stoppers, police were able to narrow in on a likely culprit, as McFadden explained. “Our agents kept tabs on him as he drove around. We observed his behavior and realized he was on a killing spree first thing this morning.”
McFadden further mentioned that Brownlee was held because he had been seen going to parks and other dimly lit areas, stopping to look around, and then continuing on.
They were looking into the attacks to see if they could determine a reason for them. The police reported that some of the victims were homeless but not all. No one was hurt, and the one woman who made it out alive claimed her attacker was silent.
The police chief acknowledged the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the United States Marshals Service, and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration.
Investigators in the area have teamed up with their counterparts in Chicago to look into the possibility of a connection between these slayings and two homicides that occurred in Chicago’s Rogers Park neighborhood in 2018. A man in black with a peculiar walk was spotted on surveillance footage, according to the authorities.
